Review: GeeWaWa Blair

A helpful reader shared her experience with GeeWaWa's Blair boots (see her comment at the bottom of this earlier post) and I'm so thankful that she did! I think these affordable boots are a strong flat boot / riding boot contender for slim-calved ladies. I apologize in advance for the graininess of some of the photos. (I removed some of the original photos and added new ones that hopefully are better).

Altogether, I'm very happy with how these boots fit. The calf circumference of my size 6 measures between 12.5"-13" fully laced up, although it may be possible to shave off another quarter inch by replacing the leather laces with thinner ones. The shaft height is 13.5"I measured from the arch of the foot to the top of the boot--basically the full length of the side zip. The shaft hits at the widest part of my calf, so the boots look proportional to my height (I'm 5'2"). The ankle was a bit saggy. It was tough to get an accurate measurement but the ankle circumference is between 9"-10". As a reference, my ankle circumference is 7.5", although something in the 8"-8.5" range would probably look best on me.

The boots are a soft leather and will need some type of protective treatment. The underside has no grip so these are definitely not for extreme winter weather. They lace up the back and have a "tongue" for a better fit (see the third picture). I laced them up as tightly as I could, which made the laces super long. I'd trim the laces to keep them from looking ridiculous. The toe is a bit pointy and I'm uncertain about whether they make my feet look gigantic, or whether it's not too noticeable. Our tipster said these run a bit large, but I think I can work with my true size 6. There's a bit of room in the foot but not so much that my foot will slip. I think this size would work for those of you who are a size 6-6.5 and maybe even a size 7. I'm planning to keep the brown pair. The black pair felt a teeny bit looser around my ankles. I'm still torn on whether these boots would work with skirts or dresses? I have a tough time gauging this. I still feel like a novice when it comes to wearing knee-high boots with skirts/dresses, so any input is appreciated!

Now for the bad news. I couldn't find these boots anywhere other than Shoebacca ($88), which has them in extremely limited sizes since they are on clearance. I'm planning to return the black pair tomorrow (via mail) so those of you who are a 6-6.5 can keep an eye out for them. Hopefully they'll be back up in a week or so.

Unfortunately, I couldn't find any similar options by GeeWaWa (pronounced like chihuahua-- their logo is a little chihuahua :) I'd never heard of this brand but I plan to email them this review. Hopefully that will prompt them to make similar styles in the future!

GeeWaWa Blair (now $88)

Closeup of the laces

Built-in "tongue"

The shaft looks a little shorter from the side. I prefer the look from the front.
I tucked the laces into the boot on my left leg (the leg on the right side of the photo) to get an idea of what it would look like if I trimmed the laces.
I'm so embarrassed about the poor fit of my skinny jeans :( I'll have to expand my search to good jeans for skinny legs!

The black pair.

  1. These boots look great - are there any measurements that you found for them anywhere though? How tall is the shaft and how wide? My calves are only 12.5 and I feel like nothing over 14 inches high works for my height. I do notice the slight sagging in the ankles. That's such another frustration...skinny ankles bring the boot sag which is also a problem.

    1. Ack, I can't believe I forgot to include the measurements!! Thanks for reminding me. I added them to the post in bold, so readers don't have to sift through the whole post for the most important information. Here's a quick overview-- Calf circumference 12.5"-13". Shaft height 13.5". Ankle circumference 9"-10".

    2. Also, my ankle circumference is 7.5", which is quite slim (my thumb and middle finger touch when I wrap them around it) so I hope they're on the small side and others will be less likely to have the same problem. Readers have told me that they sometimes wrap a sock around each ankle to fill out their boots. It makes me wonder if wearing something like a terry cloth tennis wristband around my ankle would achieve a similar effect...

  2. These look great and I love your blog. I love the picture with the skirt. The best super skinny jeans I've found are also the cheapest: Old Navy Rockstar.

    1. Thanks! It's helpful to get feedback re: wearing these with a skirt. Also, thanks for your tip about skinny jeans! They seem be sold out in my size but I'm going to stalk them online! I've been wanting to branch out to reviewing skinny jeans too but the selection seems so overwhelming. Your tip could help a lot of women who read this blog.

    2. I love ON Rockstars too! I would really try the size on in store, as different colors/washes tend to fit differently, both in waist size, leg length, etc. I am 5'3" and 100 lbs, waist 25" and hips 31" (no butt), inseam 30" and am usually a size 2

    3. Thanks for the tip! It looks like our measurements are pretty similar so I'm hopeful! I feel ya on the lack of butt. I started doing Xtend Barre not too long ago and it helped me build up a (little) tush so I highly recommend it as a workout :)

  3. So happy to have found a woman my size! Thank you for taking the time to post on this subject. It's a pleasure to read your writing style, too! I just ordered some boots from Amazon, I'll let you know how that goes...

    1. Thanks Sarah! That's such a nice compliment. I'm glad you found this blog (and this narrow calf community) as well! Good luck with the Amazon boots and please reach out if they're a good fit :)

  4. Thanks for all the info here. So helpful...even though I'm actually part of a minority within a minority. Reading posts, most members' calves in this community run about 12-13 inches with 7.5 inch ankles. I am 5'4" and about 120 lbs...and just now measured my leg... the widest part of my calves measures 10 3/4 inches and the narrowest part of my ankles is 5 3/4 but flaring at the joint bone to 7 1/2 inches. My mid-thigh measures only 14 3/4. So if you all have been frustrated finding well-fitting boots and skinny jeans...just imagine how I feel. My hope is no longer to find the perfect-fitting boots ...but perhaps finding the best affordable boots that looks the least ridiculous on my stick legs. So far, these Geewawa Blair boots look the most promising...so I ordered them right away. ETA is Nov 18

So glad you mentioned your jeans that got the Old Navy Rockstar recommendation. I am going to look for that next. I do look forward to your list of super skinny jeans as all my "skinny jeans" look like regular jeans on me.

    1. Hi CeeBee - I wish you had emailed me before ordering the GeeWaWa's. I'm not sure what size you are but I don't think they will be able to adjust down to less than 12" in circumference :( My size 6 fits my 12" calf without looking ridiculous but there is still a little bit of a gap, and I adjusted them as tight as they could go. I honestly think that the best option for you would be to find a pair of affordable boots that are workable and take them to a tailor to be adjusted. That could be an option with the GeeWaWa's since they are good quality leather and have seams down the front, back, and side. Of course, DUO could also be an option but does not meet the affordability criteria for most people. Good luck.
